What he thought was exciting news might’ve meant nothing to Lucas after all.

The chief took a deep breath and went ahead, telling him everything that had happened.

“Right now, Julian is in our custody, and Tessa has been sent to the hospital we’re partnered with.”

Lucas narrowed his sharp eyes, his voice tinged with danger. “Are you sure his mental state is truly unstable?”

At that question, the chief’s heart skipped a beat.

Right–he had completely overlooked that part.

Lucas tapped his long fingers on the armrest, waiting.
