"Heya," Whisker waved.
Noctis lunged straight into Atticus’ arms, smearing his face with slobber.
"Kuu! Dada!"
"Hey, little guy."
Atticus tried, and failed. to get him off. He sighed and let him continue. But Noctis clearly had no intention of stopping.
"Alright, alright. Enough."
He pried Noctis off, earning a sad look.
"I missed you too."
"Kuu~"
"Honestly, man," Whisker said, shaking his head, "you’ve got to teach him more words than Kuu, Dada, and Ozzy. It was cute at first, but now it’s just embarrassing."
"I’m glad to see you alive too, Whisker."
"Of course!" Whisker flicked his hair dramatically. "You can’t get rid of peak."
Atticus scoffed, then eyed him properly.
He hadn’t changed at all since he last saw him on Eldoralth. Beach shorts. Flip flops. Open vintage shirt, revealing his ripped muscles.
"You used your will."
Whisker’s smile faded, but he shrugged. "It was either that or death. I chose the obvious option."
"But—"
"We’ll deal with that later. You’ve got more pressing matters."
Atticus narrowed his eyes, then nodded.
"For example..." Whisker looked at Anorah, "I see you finally bagged the hottie. I won’t say much, but I never thought Zoey was quite right for you."
"Zoey?" Anorah frowned, looking at Atticus, who immediately glared at Whisker.
"I’ll... explain later. Let’s head back."
...
A short while later, they reached the city, hovering in the sky
The once bustling streets were now silent. Gods and champions stood scattered around, each with grim expressions.
’They already heard.’
The resistance existed to free common people from the oppression of the major factions. But that oppression existed in the first place because of their overwhelming might.
And one such force was currently marching toward them.
A dread like silence covered the city and Atticus didn’t miss the trembling gods. He frowned.
’The morale is bad.’
They had already lost before the battle even began.
As Anorah led them into the council room, Whisker immediately looked at Atticus.
"If y’all go against the Redflames directly, you’ll lose. Badly." 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Anorah frowned. Atticus even more so.
"What do you mean?"
"I know my star actor isn’t stupid, so I’m sure you already know your true enemy. The one leading the Viscounts."
"Merek."
"Exactly. So you know his current power?"
Atticus nodded.
"I was hoping you’d be at the peak of the Viscount rank too, but you’re clearly not there yet."
"You’re stating the obvious," Anorah said. "Get to the point."
Whisker gave her a look, then glanced at Atticus.
"She’s feisty. That your type?"
"She’s right. Get to the point."
"Alright." Whisker sighed. "I’ve gone around most parts of the layer trying to find you. I’ve seen the Redflame army. And from what I see here, your resistance doesn’t stand a chance."
"And what do you suggest?"
"I’d say..." Whisker gestured at Atticus, "bank everything on him."
"But you said Merek is stronger."
