Chapter 1398: Finally...

To Anorah, this enigmatic group were becoming more and more dangerous. First it was being able to nullify wills on the willess world. Regardless, that was god against god.

Lik wasn’t a god. Yet, they had been able to fit him with an unknown technology that enabled him impervious to the will of a god. In the God’s world!

It was a dangerous weapon. An impossible weapon, something that shouldn’t exist. Just what the hell were the Will Guards. Where didn’t they come from?

Anorah let out a breath.

’Now isn’t the time to think of things like this.’

She turned towards One, there were more pressing matters at hand.

"Let’s go. I’ll question them myself."

She could see the hesitation in One’s gaze, and she understood why. This new technology was as precious as it was dangerous. If it was something they could also use, it would help them greatly in their goal.

’But it’s too dangerous.’ She reminded herself as she appeared in the chamber the traitors were being held.

Her eyes landed on their figures. 4 in total, one woman and the rest men. They had all been stripped naked, flogged, beaten, drowned and shocked. Tortured.

Anorah was what many might call compassionate, but it was mainly based on two things. Duty, and family.

She was duty bound, and would risk her life to protect the people she’d promised to protect, and secondly, there was none more important than family.

But to those who fell out of these categories, the Anorah they’d meet was simply a cold mask. Nothing more than a machine.

There was not a single shred of pity or concern in her eyes as she scanned the traitors, one by one, until her gaze settled on Lik.

"You know who I am?" she asked.

Lik’s face was a swollen ruin, his eyes barely slit open.

"Sa—saint..." he croaked.

"Good." Anorah inclined her head as if praising a dog.

"You are traitors to the Alliance, to our great and just cause," she continued, words measured and cold.

"You betrayed the trust people placed in you. For that, you deserve nothing but death."

She let the sentence hang for a moment, watched as their eyes lit up in horror.

"Or," she said, "I can give you a chance at redemption. Tell me the names of the other traitors in the Resistance, and I will grant you a quick, painless end. Refuse, and you will rot in chains until I decide otherwise."

The following moment of silence was broken by a sudden laugh.

Anorah tilted her head slightly, watching intently as Lik began laughing. The chains binding him rattled as he shook, drops of crimson dripping from his open wounds, yet he didn’t stop.

"Saint, saint, saint... you stupid bitch!" Lik spat, the glob of bloodied saliva sailing toward her only to splash against a barrier that shimmered to life before it could reach.

"Stop."

Anorah’s sudden command froze one of her Knights of Light mid step. He glared at Lik, ready to silence him, but obeyed her word and stepped back.

Lik coughed, then wheezed through broken laughter.
