Xiao Wu looked at the man. For two minutes, he didn’t say anything to him. And just when Bai Meiyue thought that Xiao Wu was going to walk away as he couldn’t bring himself to kill the man, Xiao Wu raised the gun in his hand and shot the man right in the middle of his forehead.
Clean, precise and painless death, just as Xiao Wu promised.
"Bury him behind the mansion; make sure that he is buried with all the respect and rituals," said Xiao Wu as he turned to walk away.
His underlings rushed forward and took the corpse away while Bai Meiyue silently watched everything happen in front of her.
"Are you upset?"
Bai Meiyue turned and looked at Lei Qian, who was standing behind her. She blinked her eyes and shook her head before saying, "Death is predominant in this society and these times. Even if we are upset and not willing to lose our loved ones, nothing will change."
She turned around and glanced at the crying young men; she could understand their sorrow, but that was it. She didn’t feel as sorry or saddened by the loss of the young soul; maybe it was because she had seen so many people die in front of her and had lost many people who were close to her.
"Let’s go," Bai Meiyue said to Lei Qian. "We have work to do."
Since the zombie that attacked Yun Fu and the rest was stronger than the rest of the zombies, it could only mean one thing—it was a mutated high-level zombie. Bai Meiyue was quite certain that this zombie was a third-level zombie because if it were a second-level zombie, she would have sensed its presence.
This zombie, however, could hide his presence, which showed that he was extremely smart and had his own skills. It could only be killed by a powerful ability user.
Lei Qian also turned serious. He nodded and then walked to the parking lot, where he got into the car along with Bai Meiyue. The two of them drove past the street that was cleaner than before, and just as they were about to turn around the corner, Bai Meiyue raised her hand and said to Lei Qian, "Stop the car here. Don’t alert that thing before we can even get close to it."
When Lei Qian heard her remark, he suddenly grew nervous. He said to her, "How about I go there alone? I am afraid that things will become difficult if you head in there."
Bai Meiyue shot him a glance. She raised her brow slowly. Painfully slow. And said to him, "Do you think you can deal with that zombie? Have you forgotten that it was I who helped you when you were trapped between the mutated rats? Without me, you will come back with a missing leg and arm."
After she finished speaking, she got out of the car without even looking at the man again.
Bai Meiyue looked at the man who was looking around as if he was worried that the thing would jump out at any moment, and curled her lips. She whispered, "Ah Qian, I think you will become a good father."
"Of course," Lei Qian puffed out his chest after getting praised. He raised his hand and rubbed his head with some embarrassment.
Bai Meiyue looked at the man’s smile and had to shake her head slightly because Lei Qian’s smile seemed to have an enchanting touch to it. The second he started smiling, the second her eyes turned starry.
And it was not good because she needed all her wits intact as she was going to fight a third-level zombie.
Soon, the two of them arrived at the mansion which Yun Fu spoke of before dying. They didn’t even get too close to the mansion, and yet Bai Meiyue and Lei Qian could sense that there was something wrong with the mansion.
Corpses of mutated animals littered the front of the mansion, and even the mutated plants and trees had withered. The mansion looked like it was straight out of a horror story. When Bai Meiyue came to a stop in front of the mansion, she said to Lei Qian, "Cover your face with a mask; third-level zombies emit a dark aura that can kill living beings and weaken ability users."
She paused. "It’s another story that it’s smart enough to hide it for the time being; I can’t say the same once it starts attacking us."
