Through the windshield, I watched him glare at me, his jaw clenched so tight I could almost hear his teeth grinding. He stalked toward my car, his movements predatory despite the slight unsteadiness in his gait.
Drake’s head hit the roof of my small sedan as we bounced over a pothole. “Fuck!” he snarled, rubbing his head. “This piece of shit can’t
even accommodate a normal-sized person.”
“It’s a car, not your ego,” I retorted, accelerating perhaps a bit more than necessary as we turned onto the main road, secretly delighting in his discomfort. “It gets me where I need to go without the small-dick energy of your overpriced sports cars.”
“Is it because of what I said at the gathering? About not marrying you?” His voice dropped lower. “You’re holding a grudge, Elsa?”
The question hit too close to home, reigniting the humiliation I’d felt hearing him dismiss me so casually in front of everyone. My chest tightened with a pain I refused to acknowledge.
“Don’t flatter yourself,” I said, stomping on the brake at a red light hard enough to make him lurch forward. “I couldn’t care less who you marry. Vera deserves your particular brand of assholery.”
“Liar,” he murmured, his eyes scanning my face. “Your heart rate spikes every time I mention it. Your scent changes. You’re angry because
I hurt you.”
“My scent changes because you disgust me,” I lied, refusing to look at him while my insides twisted with shame at how easily he could read me. “The stench of whiskey and entitlement is making me nauseous.”
Drake’s voice took on a dangerous edge. “Pull over.”
“What? No. I’m taking you home.”
‘Pull. Over, Now.” Each word was clipped, an Alpha command that made my inner wolf whimper despite my determination to resist.
My hands betrayed me, guiding the car to the side of the deserted road. We came to a stop under a broken streetlight, the engine idling softly. ‘Goddamn Alpha commands,” I muttered, hating how my body responded to him against my will.
Before I could react, Drake’s hand shot out, snatching the keys from the ignition. The car went silent, plunging us into darkness broken only by the distant glow of the city.
“Give those back, you prick,” I demanded, reaching for the keys, fear and anger making my voice shake.
Drake moved with fluid grace that belied his intoxication, capturing both my wrists in one large hand. “Enough,” he growled, his face inches from mine. “I’ve had enough of your attitude, Elsa.”

My heart hammered against my ribs, fear and something else-something I refused to acknowledge-coiling in my stomach. “Let go of me
before I scream loud enough to wake the dead.”
Instead of releasing me, Drake used his grip to pull me across the center console, his strength making my resistance futile. In one smooth
motion, he opened his door and dragged me out with him, then shoved me into the back seat, following close behind.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing?” I gasped as he loomed over me, his body caging mine against the leather seat. His weight pressed me down.
“Reminding you,” Drake said, his voice a low rumble that vibrated through my chest, “who you belong to.” His free hand moved to his tie, loosening it with practiced ease before wrapping it around my wrists, tight enough to leave marks.
“I don’t belong to anyone,” I hissed, struggling against the silk bonds, my voice cracking with the effort to hide my fear. “Especially not you, you controlling bastard.”
Drake’s laugh was dark, humorless. “Your contract says otherwise, Elsa.” His hand roughly gripped my jaw, forcing me to look at him.
His mouth descended on mine, not in a kiss but in a claiming-hard, demanding, punishing. His teeth scraped against my lower lip before biting down hard enough to draw blood. The metallic taste mixed with whiskey flooded my senses as his tongue invaded my mouth, staking his claim without permission.
