Chapter 64
“Stone is lucky to have you,” he said as we shook hands. “I doubt we would have reached an agreement without your
assistance.”
After seeing Mike out, I found Kayla from the secretary department still at her desk, surrounded by stacks of files. My stomach
sank at the sight. Fuck, this is going to be a long night.
“Elsa, you’re a lifesaver,” she said with obvious relief. “These quarterly reports need to be filed by morning, but Vera hasn’t
touched them all day.”
I bit back a sigh, anger flaring hot in my chest. Of course she hasn’t. Why would Princess Vera dirty her perfect little hands
with actual work when she can dump it all on me? “I’ll handle them. What else needs to be done?”
Kayla hesitated, then lowered her voice. “Mr. Stone called. He wants you to fix the cross-pack resource allocation spreadsheet
on his computer. He said you’d know what he meant.”
Just then, my phone rang. Drake. My pulse quickened traitorously. Damn my omega instincts to hell.
“The spreadsheet,” he said without preamble. “It needs to be done tonight.”
“I’ll take care of it,” I replied professionally, despite the unreasonable demand. Like I’ve taken care of everything else for ten
fucking years.
When I opened Drake’s computer, I found a complete disaster-columns misaligned, formulas broken, data obviously corrupted.
This wasn’t accidental; the neat formatting I’d originally created had been deliberately mangled. That vindictive little cunt.
This is Vera’s handiwork, no doubt about it. My blood boiled as I stared at the hours of work ahead of me.
“That bad?” Kayla asked, peering over my shoulder.
I nodded grimly. “Looks like I’ll be here a while.” Looks like I’ll be fixing another one of Vera’s fuck-ups while she’s probably
warming Drake’s bed.
By 3 AM, the office was deserted except for me. My eyes burned from staring at columns of numbers, but I was finally making
progress reconstructing the data from backups. The door to the executive office suddenly swung open with a bang, and Drake
stumbled in, the heavy scent of whiskey and cigarettes enveloping him.
“Still here?” he slurred, his tie loose and shirt rumpled. His eyes were unfocused, but his smirk was intact. “Again with the
spreadsheet problems? Can’t even handle basic data entry without staying all night? Stupid woman.”
There was something almost affectionate in his tone that caught me off guard. For a fleeting moment, I saw glimpses of the

Drake I’d known years ago, before Vera, before everything went wrong. Don’t fall for it, Elsa. Don’t you dare fall for his drunk
charm again.
“The data was corrupted,” I explained, keeping my eyes on the screen. “I’ve been reconstructing it from the backup files.”
He moved closer, his alcohol-laced breath hot against my neck. My body betrayed me immediately, heat pooling low in my
belly. Goddammit. Ten years and my body still responds to him like a well-trained pet.
“Always so diligent. That’s what I liked about you, Elsa.”
Liked. Past tense. Fuck you, Drake. Fuck you for making me still care.
“I’m almost finished,” I said, trying to maintain professional distance. “Then I’ll be leaving.”
“Always in such a hurry to leave me lately.” His voice had a dangerous edge now. “Remember when you used to stay?”
I did remember. I remembered every late night, every stolen moment, every promise whispered in the dark. Ten years of
memories that now felt like a beautiful lie. I remember when I thought we had a future. When I was stupid enough to believe
an Alpha could love an Omega as an equal.
“I should go,” I said, saving the file and standing up. “The spreadsheet is complete.”
I reached for Alexander’s jacket draped over my chair, but Drake snatched it first, his movements surprisingly quick despite his
intoxication.
