Chapter 1525: Families and Homes (Part 2)

A/N: Some mature paragraphs at the end.

The other thousands of people settled quite nicely. For the most part, they rented out beds in the dormitories, which was already far superior to what they expected, considering how cheap it cost them.

They never had such a sound sleep for a long time. Most of them woke up late in the morning before heading straight to work. After all, they needed to do so if they wanted to keep staying in the dormitories!!

The bright side of being a slave was that they were exempt from the visitor fees, but who wanted the title of ’slave’?

They also didn’t know every citizen in Alterra. There could be an asshole waiting for his chance to order them around. Not to mention, those rules might not apply outside the town, especially when there were no witnesses!

So, as convenient as it was to not pay visitors fee, they’d still like their freedom thankyouverymuch.

Anyway, as Sammy recommended, most of them opted to gather resources first and then use the money to rent beds. After a day’s gathering work, they would also have enough to have a basic meal.

Obviously, it was only a couple of hours’ work, but they managed to eat a meal that would’ve been impossible for them back then!

The contrast was too wide!

Interestingly, because there were so many of them, a lot had to go outside the walls. After all, although the refresh rates were great, there were only so many plants and loose resources thousands of them could forage in a day. When all the interior plants—including the ones in Alterra Garden—had been harvested, most had to go outside the walls.

They were intimidated at first. After all, there were usually monsters out there. However, they quickly realized that they thought too much.

Even if it was outside the walls, it was actually still part of the territory. They didn’t know why they weren’t walled yet, but it was still pretty comfortable gathering items there. There was a vast land of resources, without having to worry about poisonous plants and bugs.

On the contrary, because there was a far larger area of collection and there was wider variety, they actually gathered a lot more. A lot of those who worked inside heard of this and decided to join resource collecting outside the territory.

There were also plenty of standalone sentries they could run towards to help them in case there was an attack, so they felt protected even when they were outside.

Those who went outside had at least the Class E weapons they obtained while traveling to Alterra. That said, even if the durability of their weapons was consumed on this trip, they didn’t worry too much because the Class E wood weapons sold all over the territory were seriously affordable!

Almost dirt cheap, actually, and they reckoned this was because the prevalent weapons here were made of iron or, at very least, Class E bone weapons.

Anyway, today, since they still didn’t have jobs yet, most refugees turned to resource gathering again to sustain another day.

The three newcomer ladies were some of them.

Stephanie and Lacie mumbled, complaining about every move they made. "Too hot" "Too heavy" "I can’t pull~" they complained, innuendos may or may not be on purpose.

They were moaning a bit, and a few men who were nearby ended up helping them out.

Penelope rolled her eyes at them, though she was actually enjoying gathering. Because she became a slave to aborigine men early on (and was literally struggling to survive before that), she didn’t have much of a chance to study the flora here.

Even after everything, she was still a scholar in the end. Penelope was actually a student in botany, already in her thesis year, in fact. So now that she was finally escaped from those burdens, she could relax and take her time to appreciate the new plant life.

She had a large basket on her back, filled with a mix of various resources. In the Dormitory, there were a few citizens who made businesses out of making plant-based baskets and backpacks and then renting them out to bedspacers who wanted to gather resources more effectively.

Each trip with full space and a basket was enough to sustain a few meals and a bed for more than a day. Of course, in Penelope’s case, she might be keeping a few for her own use.

When there were low-level monsters, she was also determined to kill a few. Because of where she was placed, she found herself left behind by her male peers. She wanted to grow stronger too, and she wanted to get those contribution points as well!

That said, her goal was to get a lot of contribution points was not to get residences, but to access the libraries so she could learn more about this world.

It was amazing. She hadn’t been here long, but she had asked a few random people, and a lot of them knew so much, and they said it was because a lot of data was public knowledge.

If she could get her hands on the Flora-related books, she would be so satisfied.

He had never had such sex in his life. After that, he knew he wouldn’t be able to be satisfied with others.
