"I DID IT!" the child cheered, raising his hand and even jumping. He totally forgot he was injured.
Eagle jumped in and arrived just in time to catch him. He patted the boy’s head with a smile on his face. "Good job! We’re so proud of you."
"I just contacted your sister," he said. "After she treats you, your dad will meet us at the Restaurant. We’ll be celebrating your first solo kill!"
"YAYY!!" Sheldon grinned. "Did you see what I did?"
"Oh, I did—and everyone will, too," he said, raising Sheila’s phone. "Now, let’s go show them what you’ve accomplished."
...
He had grown quite a bit since the days he was trapped in Fargo. He had experienced a growth spurt after landing 13 years old as well, so he was now a young lad.
His voice cracked a lot though, which was why he became even more reticent than before. Of course, to the younger girls, it only looked handsome.
This boy had been through a lot of things, and he was even abused by adults. However, he had grown up admiring his father, and although he was traumatized, he was much stronger than his peers who went through the same thing.
Rasso, was, fortunately, a soft father as well and he never forced his son to ’man up’ and hold everything inside. Not to mention, his stepmother was a psychologist, so in time, he was eased out of his shell.
Now, many months after his rescue, Rian had become one of the best-adjusted tween in the territory.
In any case, unlike the other Little Valors, this was not his first monster kill.
In terms of numbers, even as a town, weaker monsters still counted as the majority of the mobs; it was just that the stronger monsters were present and found every so-and-so group of weaker monsters.
After all, the stronger the monster, the rarer they were, so they did not lack the village-level monsters at all—just that their quantity was several times more than when Alterra was a village.
His father, Rasso, had long joined the Guard team as a probationary member (due to his record of insubordination back in the Fargo-Alterra war), while his stepmum, Juliet, was working in the hospital as the top psychologist.
Generally speaking, kids weren’t actually prohibited from going outside and fighting as a respect to their own freedom of choice. It was not recommended, for certain, but there might be cases where the child would insist on going out. In those cases, they’d join the training teams and the like, leveling up the same as others.
In Rasso’s and Rian’s case, they usually went out as a family with Juliet, who needed to meet the training requirement as an adult employee. Of course, she was exempted at this time because she was pregnant.
It was a sister, they said.
Anyway, Rian was aware of his own strengths and weaknesses, so he was not as nervous as most of his classmates.
More importantly, as a victim of adults, his drive to grow stronger was more intense than his peers.
So, unlike Sheldon and most other kids, the teachers didn’t weaken his enemy at all!
Rian was now at Level 6, which was 2 or 3 levels higher than his peers. He went against a Level 4 Boggart on his own, which would be a challenge because he always went against monsters 3 levels below, with his father right beside him. Now, he would be alone, so he was solemn even before he entered the enclosure.
Squelch!
