After Surviving the Apocalypse, I Built a City in Another World novel Chapter 1407

Chapter 1407: The Roach Family (Part 1)

While Octavia was headed to her own wedding, there was another big one being prepared in Bleuelle itself.

This union was between the Sephon and the Roach families, which caused quite a stir in the territory.

After all, the Sephon family was a big family— yet they got one of their sons—even if it was from a minor branch— to marry someone from a low noble family like the Roachs!

Worse: it was even with an illegitimate daughter!

The whispers weren’t even subtle. Sometimes the ladies would whisper amongst each other. But few people had low levels in their circle. Who didn’t know they could be heard?!

Regardless of how affected she truly was, Liaroa kept her calm and gentle facade. She would pretend not to have heard anything and she would force the most graceful smile on her face.

Outside the house, she was the model of grace and poise. However, when she got back to her room, alone with her maids—

Slap!

One of the maids fell down and held her reddened cheek, but she stood up again as if nothing had happened.

The other maid also did not react. Obviously, they were used to such treatment.

Lia screamed like a banshee, exploding the anger she had been holding back.

"How could they still say that?!" The woman screamed, combing back her dark pink hair. "Those nobles! They’re all so arrogant!!! They’re just jealous of me for grabbing someone from the Sephon family!!!"

She paused and screeched again, this time grabbing the nearby maid’s hair and swinging her around. The maid could only sob, thankful that her level wasn’t too low, otherwise, the pull might’ve broken her neck.

"They dare! They dare!" Lia yelled. "But what’s worse is that there were even those whose families are less than mine! Where do they get the confidence to mock me?!"

She was so annoyed, but also very confused. Did she appear so easy to bully? Perhaps?

After all, she always had a calm and gentle persona outside. Only the maids under oath knew what kind of person she was.

She was just the patient and pitiable woman who always followed the volatile and jealous Estra Trion. 1She didn’t seem to have much of an opinion on her own and served as the willing backdrop for the other woman.

They did not know that much of Estra’s current reputation was Liaroa’s doing.

That foolish woman thought she was a side character, one to serve to emphasize her own greatness.

A lot of Otto’s women who had suffered were actually due to her, and she left clues that they were all under Estra’s orders. It caused Otto to dislike her, which made Estra grow to become a bitter woman, which in turn ended up reinforcing the rumors.

That foolish woman. If the Lord were bent on getting rid of people, he would! Didn’t she feel the massive explosion of forces that night? There was no way the Golds—who were weakened and had nothing in their bodies—could’ve fought their way through that!

Fortunately, Lia was tired at this time and she dropped down into a cushy chair, with little energy left in her.

Lia just sat down there for a while. Habitually, she grabbed the metallic mirror on the side table to look at her face, to check how she currently looked. No matter how angry she was, she could never be caught being ugly!

Seeing as her face was unmarred, she took out the beautiful makeup set she had in her space. It was not big, just as big as her palm, but this was something she spent a huge bulk of her savings and allowance on.

It was worth it, though. It was really amazing. The quality was great, and even if she was crying like this, it wasn’t getting washed off. She wished she could’ve determined the source before the Golds disappeared.

Now, she barely had any left. Starting today, she might have to save them for special occasions like the wedding. Still...she really wanted to keep being pretty. If she used her old makeup what would people say? That she became less pretty?

Worse, that she had gotten old?!

Just the thought made her stomach tumble and she headed to her vanity. She was heading out to visit her fiance, so she must look her best.

Rather than save up, she’d rather use more. Maybe it’d shut up those women whispering behind her back!
