Isabella glanced at Samantha and said, “I will, Samantha. I know Harold’s a good guy, but it’s only been a month or two since my divorce. And with Ethan constantly showing up, I’m just not ready to think about getting married again.”
Samantha nodded. “Of course we get it. Ethan didn’t marry you out of love, but now that you’re divorced, he suddenly acts like he can’t let you go. He keeps saying he wants you back. It’s so typical. People only realize what they’ve lost after it’s gone. I’m not trying to badmouth Ethan here.”
“Samantha, you’re just telling the truth. I’m not naive anymore. I know exactly what he’s like. I won’t fall for his sweet talk or empty promises again.”
Samantha made a sound of agreement. “As long as he’s still hung up on Natalie, you shouldn’t even consider going back to him. Otherwise, you’re the one who’s going to get hurt.”
“He’s not going to get over her that easily,” Isabella replied.
Samantha hesitated, then asked, “But if he really did move on from Natalie, would you ever take him back?” She remembered how much Isabella used to love Ethan and couldn’t help herself.
Isabella shook her head. “Even if he truly let Natalie go, there’s no way we’d get back together.”
There was too much history between her and Ethan, too much pain. That wound would never heal, not enough for them to be a couple again. The best thing for both of them was just to move on and live their own lives.
Samantha finally relaxed. As long as Isabella wouldn’t go back to Ethan, her own son had a real shot.
She ended up staying in Isabella’s office for almost an hour before finally leaving. If she hadn’t been worried about interrupting Isabella’s work, she probably could have chatted all afternoon. After leaving the company, she didn’t go back home. Instead, she picked up some gifts and headed straight to Isabella’s place, wanting to visit her future in-laws.
