“Nadine and Natalie are inseparable. You know how people say like attracts like? Those two are the perfect example. But with Nadine, at least what you see is what you get. She doesn’t pretend to be someone she’s not.”
“Natalie is a different story. She’s all sweet and gracious in public, but behind closed doors, she’s always scheming and talking behind people’s backs.”
“I’ve never liked either of them, to be honest. When I heard about Jordan cheating, I couldn’t help but feel like it was karma finally catching up with Natalie,” Harold admitted, a little too satisfied.
“But the more Natalie loses, the more she’ll blame you. She’ll never think she brought it on herself. In her mind, you’re the one who stole everything that was supposed to be hers. You should really keep your distance from her. Be careful.”
“I know. Even if I did nothing, she’d still hate me. After everything that’s happened, I’m sure she hates me more than ever,” Isabella said quietly.
She understood exactly where things stood between her and Natalie. The two of them were never going to make peace. Not in this lifetime.
They talked for a while longer before Harold finally left.
Once he was gone, Isabella sat in the living room for a few moments, letting the silence settle around her. After a bit, she went upstairs.
She had barely stepped into her bedroom when her phone rang. It was Laura, just back from her date. The moment she heard what happened, she called Isabella right away.
Isabella did her best to calm Laura down. She told her not to worry, that she was fine. Nadine had been arrested for smashing the car, and as long as Isabella refused to settle, Nadine would face real consequences. She’d have to answer for her behavior.
Right after she hung up, Ethan’s name popped up on her phone.
“Nadine went way too far. I can’t believe she smashed the car I gave you. Tomorrow I’m going to find her father and ask him what kind of daughter he’s raised,” Ethan said, his anger obvious.
That car was brand new, a gift from him to his wife, something he’d picked out with a lot of love.
