Natalie stumbled home drunk last night and was still in bed, completely out of it, which left Jackson more than a little annoyed. He and Deborah had gone out too, had a few drinks, but they both knew when to stop. Getting totally wasted just wasn’t their style.
“Deborah, this is Natalie’s cousin. Go get him a glass of warm water, would you? And bring the first-aid kit so he can put some ointment on his face. He looks so swollen, I almost didn’t recognize him.”
“Seriously, I barely knew who he was when he walked in.”
Elton just stared at them. “Jackson, am I really that messed up? Do you have any ice? If I put some on my face, the swelling will go down faster.”
Jackson just shrugged, not bothering to hide his impatience. “That’ll take ages. Just ice it when you get home.” He didn’t even try to hide the fact that he wanted Elton gone as soon as possible.
Elton didn’t even bother to reply.
Meanwhile, Natalie was actually awake, just lying there replaying everything from the party last night. Jordan had cheated on her. That wasn’t some crazy dream. York had told her, and he wouldn’t make something like that up. And honestly, she’d already noticed Jordan acting different around Malvina.
The butler knocked, and Natalie finally dragged herself out of bed. When she opened the door, he saw she was still in her evening gown from last night and immediately knew she’d just gotten up. After Jordan brought her home, he hadn’t even bothered to help her change. She’d been way too drunk to care.
“Natalie, Elton’s here. He’s all beat up. Says Ethan did it.”
Natalie frowned. “Why would Ethan beat up Elton?”
Then it hit her. She’d basically pushed Elton to chase after Isabella, and Ethan must have found out. He actually went after her cousin, all for Isabella?
