Norah had really gone all out for the gossip. She’d actually taken a pair of binoculars up to the rooftop, so she’d seen everything even clearer than Isabella.
When Isabella bumped into Norah that morning, they exchanged a quick hello. Isabella asked why Norah was up so early, and just like that, they both admitted they hadn’t slept well.
Isabella, pretending it was just casual conversation, mentioned that she thought she’d heard someone crying last night. She wondered aloud if a couple nearby had gotten into a fight. Norah glanced at her, and there was a flicker of sympathy in her eyes.
Now Norah was convinced that Isabella and Ethan’s divorce had something to do with Natalie.
Instead of spilling everything she’d witnessed, Norah just said she’d heard something too, and that she’d gotten up to check it out. She left it at that.
It was enough though. At least Isabella knew she wasn’t alone in what she’d heard.
When they reached the Barton family’s front gate, Norah stopped and turned to Isabella. “Well, this is me. I have to say, I really enjoyed chatting with you today. I never realized how easy you are to talk to. Who would’ve thought we’d get along so well? We’re neighbors, after all. We should hang out more often. They say neighbors are better than faraway relatives. Let’s keep things friendly between us.”
Isabella grinned. “You’re absolutely right, Norah. I’ll come over and bother you sometime soon.”
“You’re welcome anytime,” Norah replied with a smile.
As they said goodbye, Isabella’s eyes lingered for a moment on the two security cameras at the Barton family gate. She gave Norah a knowing look, then headed off toward her own place.
Norah caught that look. She glanced up at her own cameras, and suddenly it clicked. Isabella must have heard about what went down with Mr. Adams and Natalie last night. She was probably wondering if the cameras had caught any of it.
Norah was curious too.
