After I Stopped Loving Him novel Chapter 729

“Ethan…”

Natalie’s voice trembled with tears. “I’m outside your house.”

Ethan tossed his blanket aside, jumped out of bed, and hurried to the window. When he pulled the curtains open, he caught the glare of headlights at the front gate.

What was Natalie doing here in the middle of the night?

And why did she sound so heartbroken?

Even if Ethan was trying to move on from his feelings for her, they’d known each other their whole lives. If something happened, he’d always worry.

He didn’t hesitate. As fast as he could, he ran out of the house.

“Natalie.”

He swung open the gate and jogged to her car, rapping his knuckles against the window.

Natalie unlocked the doors but stayed where she was.

Ethan opened the door and leaned in, ready to ask what was wrong. Before he could speak, she reached for him, wrapping her arms around his waist and burying her face in his chest. “Ethan,” she sobbed.

Six months ago, Ethan would have been over the moon if Natalie had thrown herself into his arms like this.

Now, he froze. His whole body tensed. He tried to gently push her away and asked, “Natalie, what’s going on? Did something happen? Is Jordan okay?”

“Ethan, I feel so awful.”

As soon as he moved her aside, she pressed in again, this time looping her arms around his neck. She leaned forward, aiming for his lips.

Ethan jerked back, startled.

He pushed her away, harder this time, his heart pounding.

Natalie slammed into the car door.

She’d almost kissed him.

But he’d pushed her away.
