“Are you not satisfied? Isabella, if you need anything, just say the word. As long as I can do it, I will.”
Isabella didn’t say a thing. Ethan’s heart started racing. He thought maybe she wasn’t happy with what he was offering.
“Ethan, I don’t have any requests. You’ve already given me more than enough.”
Her voice was quiet, almost surprised. She really hadn’t expected him to be this generous.
“I’m the one who hurt you first. Giving you this much is the least I can do. All I ask is that you don’t hate me.”
“I don’t hate you.”
Isabella sounded calm, almost peaceful. “I used to, but not anymore.”
She only hated him when she loved him. Back then, his coldness had cut deep. Now, the love was gone, and since he was willing to let her go, the hate disappeared too.
Ethan fell silent, then let out a bitter laugh. “So, when you stop loving someone, you stop hating them too. Isabella, you don’t love me anymore, so there’s nothing left to hate.”
Not long ago, she had said she hated him and Natalie. Now, the look in her eyes was clear and steady, with not even a hint of love left.
“Where’s the pen? I’ll sign.”
“Oh, I forgot to bring one. Let me grab it.”
Ethan stood and headed upstairs. In the study, he picked up a pen and an ink pad. Even with them in hand, he just stood there, not ready to go back down. He stared at nothing for a while, lost in thought. Only after ten minutes did he finally return.
When he handed the pen to Isabella, he noticed she had already signed her name. The divorce papers were on the coffee table, a pen resting on top of them.
“You found a pen.”
“There was one in the drawer. I’ve signed already. Just hand me the ink pad, and I’ll put my fingerprint on it.”
