“That’s why I told you the truth. We need to figure this out together. But right now, the biggest issue is the maids who want to leave. What do we do about them?”
Jordan looked at her and said, “Natalie, you’ve already crossed the line. No more bodies. Let’s keep the maids. Don’t let them quit. Offer them a pay raise. If they have kids, promise them good jobs at The Lane Group when their children graduate.”
“We need to use a mix of pressure and kindness. Promise them a future for their kids so they won’t dare betray you. They’ll keep their mouths shut.”
“And since they’re still here, we can keep an eye on them,” Jordan added calmly. “Honestly, the Adams family is trying to find out what happened, but you’ve already handled anyone who knew too much. They can’t pin anything on you as long as you act normal. If you try to cover things up by getting rid of more people, that’ll just create more suspicion. You’d make the police and the Adams family look at you for sure.”
Natalie sank into a chair, her nerves starting to settle.
“Pour me a drink too,” she said.
Jordan poured her a glass, then got up to grab some cleaning supplies and quietly tidied up the floor. Once the mess was gone, he poured himself another drink and sat down across from her at the bar.
“That big transfer you asked me for last time… Was that to pay the kidnappers?” he asked.
Natalie nodded.
“You couldn’t have talked to me first?”
Jordan was still reeling from everything. When Isabella’s kidnapping happened, he remembered the suspicion that crept into his mind. No one resented Isabella more than his own wife. But Natalie just went on with her days like nothing happened, so he had let it go. Now the truth was out. It was her all along. She was the one who hurt Isabella, and somehow, her hands were on Cynthia’s death too.
Jordan lifted his glass. “It’s done. Let’s not look back. Drink with me. Here’s to us.”
Natalie clinked her glass with his, letting herself smile for the first time that night. They finished several drinks in comfortable silence, the tension slowly dissolving. Natalie stood, made her way behind the bar, and settled herself in Jordan’s lap. She wrapped her arms around his neck and pressed herself close, her voice soft and warm.
“Maybe it’s time we have a baby.”
A child would seal their future together, make everything even more unbreakable.
Jordan pulled her close and kissed her deeply, his worries melting into the taste of her lips. They kissed as they moved to the bed, collapsing together, everything else fading away as heat and passion took over.
