“Winnie’s wife loves to play poker. She might be our way in,” West said.
Kenneth immediately understood what West was implying.
“Alright, I’ll keep following that lead. You guys tailed Winnie to the club yesterday, but he was in and out in less than ten minutes. Based on your description, I suspect he has a contact inside.” Kenneth, with his professional instincts, wouldn’t let a single detail slide.
“Yeah, we’ll stay on Winnie. His contact might just be the mastermind who framed The Tasting Room,” West said, a cold glint in his eyes.
After chatting a bit longer, Kenneth was the first to leave.
Janina had dinner plans with her best friends. She hadn't been sleeping well with everything going on at The Tasting Room, and she figured it would be good to vent to her girls. There was strength in numbers, and maybe they’d have some good advice.
Meanwhile, West was upstairs, tallying up The Tasting Room’s recent losses. With no customers, the rest of the staff were just sitting around idly in the main dining area.
Before long, a stunning woman walked in through the front door.
“Is Mr. Holt here? I’m a friend of his,” she said, smiling at the girl at the cash register.
“You’re looking for Mr. Holt? Please wait a moment, I’ll go get him.” Hearing that she was a friend of the owner, the young cashier didn't think much of it. On a normal day, she might have asked a few more questions, but things were different now. For a friend to show up at a time like this, when The Tasting Room was in trouble, meant they were a true friend.
“I’ll go up with you,” Marjorie called out just as the cashier was about to head upstairs to find West.
“Well… alright.” Faced with Marjorie’s gentle smile, the cashier swallowed the refusal that was on the tip of her tongue.
“You can wait in here. I’ll go get Mr. Holt,” the cashier said when they reached the second floor, politely gesturing toward a private room by the top of the stairs.
