At Brinley's accusation, Darleen's face went rigid before erupting in pure fury. "What the hell are you talking about, Brinley?!"
"Am I wrong?" Brinley sneered. "Anyone with half a brain can see that Starla is treating this family like we slaughtered her kin! This is a blood feud!"
"If she hates anyone, it's you!" Darleen shrieked back. "Everything that's happening right now started because of you!"
Everyone knew Starla loathed Brinley. But Darleen refused to accept that she was the core reason for the family's total destruction. She refused to be the villain in this story. She had denied it before, and she would deny it now.
"Oh, she hates me, alright!" Brinley laughed bitterly. "And didn't she already get her revenge? She destroyed my mother! She destroyed the entire Seabrook family! And after she was done with us, what did she do? She asked Fairfax for a divorce! She had no intention of coming back to this estate to torture everyone!"
Darleen choked on her words. Xenia went completely silent.
Brinley was right. Starla's psychotic crusade against Brinley and the Seabrook family had already concluded. The vengeance for that specific betrayal was over. So, for her to suddenly move into the Yelchin estate...
Before Darleen could formulate an excuse, Brinley hammered the final nail in the coffin. "She was packing her bags to leave him. But suddenly, she drops the divorce and moves in here to torture the entire household. You think she did that just for fun? Or because she uncovered a vendetta against the entire Yelchin name?"
"You—" Darleen gasped.
"If she only hated me, she wouldn't have dragged out her marriage to Fairfax!"
Darleen and Xenia instinctively exchanged a terrified look. Their guilt was written all over their faces. It was true. They had all seen how Starla truly felt about Fairfax now—there was nothing but cold indifference. If she only wanted Brinley's head on a spike, she would have divorced him and walked away.
