Both Brinley and Fairfax turned to look. Meeting Darleen's dead, emotionless eyes, Brinley felt the breath catch in her throat.

Brinley was rendered speechless.

"And don't give me that garbage about not wanting the child to live with a stain on his reputation. If you actually cared about his reputation, you wouldn't have been screwing around with Felix Fowler in the first place!"

Again, Brinley had no answer.

Darleen was completely lucid now. Her logic was airtight, and no amount of pathetic tears or excuses from Brinley could dispel her convictions. In fact, she wasn't just suspicious anymore; she was absolutely certain.

Realizing it was entirely hopeless, Brinley covered her face, burst into tears, and sprinted out of the room.

Watching her pathetic retreat, Darleen let out a cold scoff. She turned to Fairfax. "Don't tell me you're actually going to go soft on her again?"
