Hailey had thought Latonia was here to persuade her to break up with Cedric, but she didn't ask directly. "What do you want to know?"

Latonia leaned back elegantly on the sofa and pursed her lips slightly. "Do you love him?"

Talking about love in front of his mother made Hailey feel a little shy, but she bravely admitted, "He's a great guy. I like him a lot."

Latonia had asked if she loved him, but Hailey had replied that she liked him. For an older person, this wasn't a satisfactory answer. "So you don't love him?"

Hailey opened her mouth to argue, but was interrupted by Latonia. "Ms. Vulpe, my son has never been married. He doesn't know what it's like. But you seem to have had that experience, so you must know how marriage works, right?"
