A Mate For The Last Lycan novel Chapter 49

Chapter 49: A FORM OF COURTESY

"That's not right." Karina shook her head.

"I know."

"That's not right. I never taught you to be this stupid." Karina gritted her teeth. She was so angry at Zuri right now.

Meanwhile, out there, the commotion started to grow louder. They knew the meaning of that, but neither of them moved from their positions.

"I will inform your father about this," Karina said. She turned around and called for her maids to prepare a carriage for her.

"It's too late for you to do anything. You will also die if you go to the palace now. Go back to the River Creek pack and wait until the situation becomes more conducive."

Karina stopped walking out of the room, she turned around again to face her daughter. "I am with my mate, for life or death."

Silence stretched between the mother and daughter, as they watched a myriad of emotions flicker in each other's eyes.

"You love him," Zuri finally concluded.

"He is my mate. I devoted my life to be with him." Karina smiled. "This is what you call loyalty, something that I apparently failed to teach you."

After saying that, she left.

"No, mother. You didn't fail to teach me about loyalty. I chose the man that I gave my loyalty to, but he is just not someone you approved of. That is all."

Zuri then walked out of the room shortly after her. She went to her bedroom and stayed there until the night was over. She heard beasts growling in the distance and the sounds of beasts fighting. Apparently, the royal warriors were already here and they fought the guards that were left behind to protect the pack house.

Their resistance wouldn't last long, as the guards were no match for the battle hardened royal warriors.

Soon enough, two beasts found Zuri. She was still inside her bedroom, sitting next to her bed on the floor. She didn't fight back when the two warriors shifted back into their human form and escorted her out of the room.

She knew Xaden and her father had failed in their attempt to stage their so-called coup before the night fell, even before these warriors trespassed into the pack house and took her away to be imprisoned in the royal dungeon.

This must be the first time for Zuri to be in such a nasty and dirty place, where she couldn't even sit down without dirtying her dress even further.

Her mind was blank, she didn't know what to think, but to her relief, the voices in her head stopped as well. Probably, even they were afraid of the dark.

Tired of standing, Zuri finally slid down and hugged her knees, rocking herself back and forth. She didn't know what was happening out there or how many days had passed, everything was a blur. She was only clinging to the hope that Khaos wouldn't leave her in the lurch.

She chose him, he had to choose her too.

Zuri hummed to comfort herself, she patted her head the way Khaos did, but it didn't work. His touch was just magical and his existence was the medicine that Zuri needed.

'He has abandoned you.'

"No. He has not."

'See? He abandoned you. He only used you, just like everyone.' freēwēbnovel.com

"I want her," Khaos said to Dacre.

It had been two weeks since they managed to capture Xaden and Alpha Roland. Their plan failed miserably. The coup didn't even take too long to be subdued, since all of their plans had been laid open for them to see.

Xaden and Roland were still confused as to who was the traitor among them and even though two weeks had passed, they were still being tortured. Drace wanted to drag this out as long as

possible.

"Out of all the women that you can have, you want her? Do you even know that she is labeled

as a traitor now after what her mate and father did?"

"She has credit for this success."

"Yes, but it's because she was infatuated with you." Dacre leaned over, his upper body crossed the table between them, as they talked in the throne room. "Tell me, what have you done to make her infatuated with you like that?"

"I need to ask her about that."

Dacre chuckled. "Fine." He waved his hand. "You can have her, but she will not be the luna of your pack. She will be an omega. I will arrange your union with Princess Rose soon after we are done with this problem."

"I didn't come here to ask permission. I came here to inform you what I'm thinking as a form of courtesy," Khaos said, as he stood up. He looked unapproachable now, scary even. "And you will not dictate with whom I will have my union with."
