A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 805

Matilda, out of sheer politeness, decided to visit Yvan. When she arrived, Yvan and Lance were standing by the window, looking all business-like in their suits. Upon seeing her, Lance didn't say a word, just stood there in a somewhat awkward silence.

That silence was so thick that when Matilda met Lance's gaze, she felt a flutter of unease.

She cleared her throat, "I'm here to... um..."

"See me?" Yvan interjected with a hint of mischief, though there was an edge to his smile that wasn't there before.

Matilda frowned slightly, "Yes, thank you for saving my son."

"Oh, it's nothing," Yvan replied with a smirk. "After all, he's my son too. Besides, I didn't rush in there just for your gratitude."

"I know," Matilda cut in quickly, "but I still wanted to thank you."

Yvan's eyes locked onto Matilda's like a wolf eyeing its prey. "Words are cheap, don't you think? Maybe you could show me a more... tangible form of gratitude."

Matilda remained silent, her face paling slightly.

Yvan continued to grin, "Seems like you came here just to ease your conscience, to comfort yourself that you didn't ignore my effort, right?"

His confrontational tone was a throwback to the old Yvan.

Matilda blurted out, "Have you regained your memory?"

Yvan let out a resigned chuckle, "I know, don't worry about my feelings. You do find me annoying, right?"

"Why are you bringing this up all of a sudden?" Matilda asked, puzzled. "You never mentioned it before..."

"Yeah, because I used to be a fool," Yvan said, his words slicing through the air. "I thought since I hurt you before, I deserved all of this. You had every right to ignore me, didn't you?"

Yvan swiftly laid it all out there, "You know what Logan said to me? He said I don't need to chase after you anymore, that you guys can live just fine without me. Basically telling me to shove off, right? And there I was, grinning like an idiot, pretending it didn't hurt, and saying I just can't get enough of this one-sided affection for you, Matilda!"

His last words came out in a near shout, startling Matilda enough to take a few steps back. Lance, sensing the tension and awkwardness, decided to make a hasty exit. "Uh... I'll leave you two to sort this out. I'll give you some space."

With that, he quickly left the room, closing the door behind him with a decisive clang.
