A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 728

The moment Chloe felt an intense gaze burning into her, she looked up to see Declan, standing not far away, his face a picture of shock.

Instantly, her face turned ashen, a mix of panic and pallor.

Why... why here, of all places?

She had never anticipated running into Declan here. It had been ages since she'd heard anything about him. Just when she thought she was stepping out of his shadow, Declan reappeared, as if out of thin air.

Chloe clenched her fists, her body stiffening as she stood there. Godfrey, sensing something was off, followed her gaze straight to Declan.

Declan's look was as cold as a drawn sword, sharp enough to wound. Had it been possible, Godfrey would have been riddled with holes.

Godfrey frowned, pulling Chloe closer, only for Declan to curl his lip in a mocking smile. "Long time no see."

Half a year, to be exact.

Chloe thought by avoiding him, by leaving, she could start her life anew. But now, she realized how wrong she was.

The moment Declan showed up, any semblance of peace and calm was shattered, everything reverting back to square one.

She trembled slightly but managed to muster some composure to respond, "Long time no see."

How do ex-lovers greet each other? Could a simple handshake really put the past to rest?

Declan's gaze shifted to Godfrey by Chloe's side, dripping with irony. So, he had spent the last six months battling his own demons, not seeking her out, all to give her and this man a chance.

Declan's face darkened, his amber eyes turning stormy. "Say that again?"

Godfrey sneered dismissively, "You heard me."

Declan stormed towards Chloe, causing her to pale with fear, thinking Declan intended to harm Godfrey. She stepped in front of Godfrey, her eyes filling with panic, "What are you doing? Stay back, don’t you dare hurt Godfrey!"

Declan, hearing this, laughed as if it were a joke, grabbing Chloe's wrist, "You’ve grown bolder. My leniency has become your excuse to act out? Huh? Chloe, have you forgotten the days you were so eager to please, like a loyal dog?"

Chloe's pupils shrank in fear, never expecting Declan to dredge up her nightmares again. Her lips trembled, "What do you want? I thought we had nothing to do with each other anymore. Why mock Godfrey? What has he ever done to you?"

To Declan, Godfrey's mere aspiration towards Chloe was a death wish.
