"Is she in there?"
Lance's voice echoed from outside the bathroom, snapping Matilda back to reality. As she lifted her head, she noticed Yvan's tall, slender silhouette cast upon the glass, with another shadow beside him, engaged in conversation.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm going in to check on her," Lance declared.
Yvan felt like smashing the ashtray into his face. "Who said you could go in? I haven't even stepped in there myself!"
"I'm a doctor, for heaven's sake! Do you understand the concept of compassion? Do I look as sleazy as you?" Lance protested, not backing down. "In my eyes, Matilda is a patient. I wouldn't dare mix any personal feelings into this..."
Yvan, lighting a cigarette, pressed the lit end against Lance's face. "Say one more word and I'll set your precious hair on fire."
"How dare you threaten me!" Lance leaped back, clutching his white locks. "This hair is my pride and joy!"
With a cold laugh, Yvan knocked on the glass door and slightly opened it, slipping a few shopping bags inside with a flick of his finger.
Clearing his throat, the man said, "Your clothes got soaked too, so I bought you a new set."
Matilda was taken aback. "Mr. Boyd, you shouldn’t have gone through the trouble..."
Yvan felt like he had struck gold; Matilda looked stunning in the outfit he chose. Regaining his composure, he asked, "How are you feeling now?"
"Um..." Matilda frowned slightly, "I still feel a bit weak, but otherwise, I'm fine."
From afar, Lance tossed over a bottle of pills. "Take two of these. They'll help speed up your metabolism and detoxify your body, getting rid of the drug effects faster."
"Oh, okay, thank you." Matilda thanked him again, while Lance just sat on the couch, observing Yvan's infatuated gaze on Matilda. It seemed the usually intimidating and enigmatic Yvan was now like a lovesick boy, his eyes filled with wonder and delight at the sight of her.
Lance shook his head, sighing at the thought, "Ah, blind love..."
