A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 658

"Sorry..." The man instinctively blurted out in Mandarin, a language that seemed oddly familiar to Matilda. She was about to lift her head to get a better look when the guy, his face obscured by a baseball cap, quickly turned away, leaving Matilda with no time to react.

Weird... His voice sounded so familiar... Could it be an old acquaintance?

She watched his retreating figure for a long time, puzzled, until Adrian pulled her into the elevator. "What's so interesting? He had his cap pulled down so low, was he a handsome guy?"

Matilda teased, "He had a sharp chin, and all the guys with sharp chins are handsome."

Adrian wasn't pleased, "Well, I have a sharp chin too."

Matilda laughed, "I never said you weren't handsome."

"Fine, can't argue with you."

Adrian huffed and pressed the elevator button. They had booked two rooms; Logan and Matilda in one, Adrian and Carl in the other. After dropping off their luggage, the guys waved, "See you in an hour. Get some rest. The charity dinner starts at 7 PM."

"Alright."

Matilda had brought her own gown and makeup for the occasion and planned to spare some time to get ready.

After leaving the hotel, the man in the cap quickly sent a text message.

"Be careful going out on your own."

The man lying on the bed, a smirk playing on his lips, texted his good friend, "Who did you run into that’s got you so spooked?"

Keaton sighed, taking off his cap and ordering a cup of coffee at the hotel's ground floor bar before sitting down. "The people I mentioned before, they're in Australia now."

Adrian and Carl exchanged a smile, then watched as Matilda sat down at the table, unpacking a large makeup case filled with assorted products. She arranged everything neatly, then propped up a small mirror, "I'll start with the makeup. Just make yourselves comfortable, just don’t wake Logan, let him sleep a bit longer."

"Alright."

Adrian placed the hotel-delivered cake on the nightstand and moved over to help Matilda choose jewelry. The tall, slim man stood by her side, assisting her in getting dressed, while Carl sat back, finding the scene rather heartwarming.

Yet, he knew, Matilda had long since closed off her heart, as hard and cold as a block of ice. She bore all her burdens alone, never uttering a word of complaint.

Becoming more and more like Yvan each day.

She had molded herself in Yvan’s image.
