A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 632

Half an hour later, when Matilda returned to Plum Resort, Declan was there, shaking his head at her, struggling to keep his sorrow at bay and clutching onto his last shred of sanity. "No luck," he said, "couldn't find anything."

Matilda nodded, then turned her attention to Logan, who was squatting by the edge of a cliff.

R7CKY was there with him, probably worried that Logan might slip, so he kept a watchful eye.

When Matilda glanced at her son, the boy lifted his head, his face streaked with tears.

But as he looked up at his mom, he stammered out, breaking into halfway sentences, "He... he's gone, and it's... it's good..."

A sharp pain pierced Matilda's heart.

"It's good... no one can hurt you anymore."

Logan finished, through his tears, "Mommy... we're... we're free now."

No longer would a man named Yvan destroy all her trust and love, repeatedly casting her into hell, then taking everything she had.

Yvan was gone, in a way that left no room for return. He said he wanted to make amends, and so he gave her everything, even his life, regardless of whether she wanted it or not.

Matilda knelt down and embraced Logan, pulling him gently into her arms, "It'll be just like the old days when it was just us."

As if Yvan had never left. Or never... existed.

He had simply vanished from their world.

"It can't be..." Declan muttered absentmindedly, "Yvan can't be dead..."

Just days before, they were joking around, and Yvan was bragging about how capable his son was. How could he be... gone?

Declan's hands were shaking. The news of his good friend's death hit him hard. Chloe had already been taken to the hospital by Godfrey, and he was unaware of her injuries, only calling for a search over and over again.

But the result was always the same.

No trace found.

"We need to keep this under wraps for now, don't let the news of Yvan's accident spread," Declan decided on the spot. "Yvan was a man of influence, his sudden accident could stir up a storm, and the Boyd family is in turmoil as it is. We can't afford any more shocks."

Matilda stood by, her face showing some scratches, but she stood tall, her coat fluttering in the wind. She tidied her hair.

Logan walked over to Orson, took his hand gently, and called, "Uncle Orson..."

With Yvan gone, the only man he could rely on was Orson.

She took Logan back to their home. Chloe was still in the hospital, with five stitches on her abdomen, complaining loudly about how ugly the stitches were once she woke up, while Godfrey's eyes turned red with worry.

Three days later, the Boyd family faced another tragedy.

Opal passed away.

Stricken with grief and unable to recover from the shock of seeing her grandson fall off the cliff with a criminal, she failed to catch her breath and fainted, then was rushed to the hospital for emergency treatment.

Though initially revived, upon hearing that her beloved grandson was still missing, she fell into despair, fainted again, and was subjected to a second emergency treatment. Multiple critical condition notices were issued, signaling to the Boyd family that she might not survive.

Under the weight of this catastrophic despair, Opal couldn't pull through.

The grandson she adored, who was unmatched in her eyes, was gone, and her rigid, decaying heart followed.

Now, the Boyd family was enduring a sorrow beyond what most could bear, similar yet different from the Thompson family five years ago.

However, unlike the Thompson family's bankruptcy and imprisonment, the Boyd family was mourning the loss of the young and the old, leaving behind a middle-aged couple, lost and helpless.

Matilda, with Logan in tow, visited Violet, coinciding with the Boyd family's mourning period. Violet had been in tears nonstop, and Noel, standing tall alone, managed the affairs. When he saw Matilda, his tears flowed freely.
