Matilda's lips curled into a smirk upon hearing the news. As expected... Orson and Hadrian had taken care of the loose ends...
When Hadrian arrived with his crew in front of Chad, the once reckless man finally showed a hint of restraint, stepping back in disbelief.
Standing beside Hadrian and his team were none other than Yvan's mother and grandmother, the very people who were supposed to be captured. Yet, here they were, rescued by the Jungle Union!
"Damn it, who let them out?!"
"Ridiculous!" Hadrian roared in anger. "Does the Jungle Union listen to you or to me?"
Chad's face turned ghostly pale, realizing his father had come to his senses. That meant he knew who was behind the accident...
Once Hadrian regained his strength, Chad knew he was in for a world of trouble.
Backed into a corner with no way out, Chad knew he had to act, clutching at the only leverage he had left...
His gaze shifted back to Rachel, who, before she could even react, was yanked off the ground by Chad!
"What—what are you doing?!"
Hadn't they agreed to a partnership? Chad was supposed to coerce Yvan into handing over Matilda, then get rid of her to ensure she'd never be a threat to him again!
That was the deal, and because of it, she had opened the doors of the Boyd family mansion, allowing intruders in which led to Violet's capture. She did the same at the Plum Resort, giving Chad the upper hand and getting Opal tied up in the process.
She had done everything asked of her, and now she was the one with a gun to her head?!
Rachel screamed, "You're insane!"
"Ha, trusting the words of a man like me, you're still too naive."
"Let me go!" Rachel's legs gave out, almost dragged all the way by Chad. "Don't touch me!"
"Enough!"
Matilda watched the unfolding scene, shouting, "Chad, what's the point of using me as a bargaining chip with Yvan?"
"Seems like Yvan hasn't told you everything, huh?" Chad sneered, a man on the brink of death attempting one last strike. "Look at this, Hadrian, Orson, Yvan, even your own son knows everything. You're the only one in the dark. Should I say you're lucky, having so many people shielding you, or should I say you're pitiful, excluded from the truth?"
Matilda's heart skipped a beat, wondering what terrifying truths Yvan and the others had kept from her.
In the next moment, seizing Matilda's momentary distraction, Chad pushed Rachel towards her like a human shield. Matilda instinctively tried to dodge, but this evasion gave Chad the opening he needed. He quickly raised his gun, willing to gamble everything, and laughed maniacally as he retreated—
"Even if I die, I can't let your bloodline remain in this world—!!"
