A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 608

"Ms. Thompson, do you feel wronged?"

—What does it matter if I feel wronged? I've made it through, and looking back, I'm not trapped in the past. That's something to be grateful for.

How did you feel when Yvan stood up and cleared your name for you? Would you consider being with him again?

—How did I feel? It's hard to say, but I cried in front of the camera. That moment was probably when all my emotions finally burst out. I never thought I'd see the day when my name would be cleared. I'm thankful Yvan had the courage to correct his mistake and clear my name, but getting back together? I don't think I have the courage or the luck for that.

Will you ever forgive him?

—I will never forgive him.

"I will never forgive him."

Reading those words, Yvan felt a sting in his eyes, a sourness enveloping his heart.

The fingers holding the bottom of the page trembled slightly. Matilda's casual mentions of being wronged, misunderstood, and framed were filled with a heart-wrenching pain.

Those five years of hell, she was left alone in the prison Yvan built with his promises, tossing and turning with no escape.

Later, Yvan closed the book, covered his face with his hand, as the setting sun painted the world in shades of red behind him. Swallowed by the light, his shoulders quivered slightly.

Looking up, a tear silently shattered on the table.

He wanted to find Matilda, right now, immediately, to tell her they could start over, to give him a chance to treat her right.

But reason told him it was too late. Even a second's delay meant a missed opportunity. He had made mistakes, and she had moved on.

It became a missed connection.

She pulled out a small box from her pocket, containing a gold chain meant for Logan's birthday gift. But Logan's birthday had passed so long ago, and she hadn't seen him since.

Violet handed the box to Yvan, "Next time you see Logan, give this to him. Tell him it's from grandma, for protection."

"Okay."

Yvan's voice was hoarse as he took the jewelry box from Violet, then added softly, "Mom, if someone's completely disappointed in me, is there any chance left for me?"

Violet knew what Yvan was referring to and sighed, "I know, I have my part in this. When Matilda was called away by Rachel that day, I didn't stop her... I never imagined it would lead to the elevator incident..."

Yvan looked at the soup on the table, softly saying, "But if I don't make amends, how can I ever make up for what's lost?"

Violet patted Yvan's back, "Yvan, go. I'll handle things with Opal. Regardless of whether Matilda can ever forgive the Boyd family, we owe it to her to make things right."
