The room fell into a heavy silence, a clear sign that the problem at hand had them stumped. It took Yvan a while before he finally spoke, "Let me know if there's any update."
Adrian frowned, "You don't suspect Orson's identity at all?"
Yvan stared at Adrian for a long moment before slowly saying, "I've looked into it, but the Jungle Union is a murky pond. It might even be spreading its tendrils as far as Declan."
This implicated a lot more people than initially thought, stretching from Matilda to Declan.
Adrian clicked his tongue and stood up from the couch, striding towards Yvan's desk with his long legs. When they locked eyes again, Adrian challenged, "If you can’t handle it, step aside."
His words were clearly provocative.
Yvan scoffed, "You don't get to boss me around. Get out of my office if that's all you've got."
Adrian, being the one dismissed, didn't seem embarrassed at all, leaving the office with the same grace he entered. Just then, he ran into Carl who greeted him with respect, "Good day, Mr. Simpson."
Adrian merely hummed in acknowledgment, but his gaze froze when it landed on the person behind Carl.
Rachel was in a wheelchair, evidently there to see Yvan, but had run into Adrian before she could reach Yvan’s office.
The sight of Rachel made Adrian's lips curl into a subtle smirk.
Rachel panicked at the sight of him, "Adrian... what are you doing here?!"
Adrian? That was a name from a distant past.
Adrian smiled maliciously, "Long time no see, Rachel."
"Adrian..."
Rachel reached for Adrian’s hand but he violently shook her off, his disgust evident, "Don’t touch me!"
His hatred was as palpable as Matilda's disdain for Yvan used to be.
Carl was taken aback but maintained a neutral facade, knowing it was best to stay out of their affairs.
Rachel's voice was filled with grievance, "Why have you become like this? Adrian, you weren't like this before. I was so happy to see you again, why...?"
"You're happy to see me?"
Adrian's laugh was enigmatic as he grabbed Rachel's chin, "Enjoying the position of Yvan’s fiancée, are you? Rachel, your capacity for lies truly does, open, my, eyes!"
