A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 479

The Yeager family's background was locked up tighter than Fort Knox, and trying to dig into it was like playing with fire – a surefire way to end up with a one-way ticket to jail for life.

R7CKY hammered out a message in rapid succession.

When Logan saw it, his heart sank like a stone.

Messing with Declan’s past was like poking a bear – dangerous and likely to end badly for anyone foolish enough to try.

Logan froze. What secrets was Declan hiding?

“I got it, won’t bother you with this anymore.”

“Kid, don’t even think about digging into Declan’s history. We’re on it. If anything comes up, you'll be the first to know. Don’t go solo, got it?”

“Understood.”

Logan pocketed his phone, his mind racing with fragments of information.

Wind Deity… Jungle Union… Declan’s father, Craig…

And… his mother, Matilda.

...

His voice trailed off as he watched Chloe being wheeled into the emergency room, then sat down on a bench in the hallway, drenched and despondent, his head in his hands, letting out a guttural groan of despair.

After completing the paperwork, Matilda came over with a payment slip for Chloe’s treatment and found Godfrey in a state of agony and regret.

Feeling a pang of sympathy, she handed him a packet of napkins. “Dry off a bit. She’ll probably tease you when she wakes up.”

Godfrey, shaking, reached for the napkins.

A man of his stature, reduced to this.

“She’s got an infection from her wounds, leading to a fever and unconsciousness. Plus, the rain in Whty City didn’t help...” Matilda patted his shoulder. “Once the fever breaks, she should be out of danger.”
