"Godfrey handed over that apartment to you?"
"What's the deal between you two? He's swiped two deals from me, Chloe, all because of you."
"Such a backstabber," Declan sneered with disdain. "A snake that can't be tamed. Chloe, that burner account on the internet, 'SecretSpiller' - that's you, isn't it?"
Chloe's usually impassive face finally cracked.
Seeing this, Declan laughed even harder, "Oh, looks like you care more about your bestie than yourself. You don't bat an eye at anything I say, but mention anything related to Matilda and you're all ears. Chloe, I never took you for someone so sentimental."
Chloe opened her mouth to speak but no sound came out.
Facing Declan, words seemed futile.
Declan, clearly provoked by Chloe's attitude, grabbed her and pinned her down on the couch. Realizing what Declan intended, Chloe started to struggle.
Her voice came out sharp, "Let me go!"
"Playing innocent now, are we?"
Declan scoffed, gripping her neck tightly. "Chloe, I can't stand your face. To put it nicely, you're a people pleaser; to be blunt, you're just fake. Disgusting!"
"If you find me so disgusting, then don't touch me!"
Chloe trembled, "Declan, what do you want from me?"
But Declan's response was to tear her clothes, exposing her skin to the cold air, driving Chloe to desperation.
"It's only in moments like this that I find you truly genuine..." Declan's amber eyes glowed with an emotion Chloe couldn't decipher, his laugh sinister, "Chloe, it's only when you hate me that you seem the most real..."
Declan roared, "Tell me! Have you or haven't you?"
Chloe didn't answer, only laughed, "You're repulsive."
"Don't push me to act against Godfrey and Matilda."
Threats, Declan's forte.
Mentioning Matilda finally made Chloe show some panic. Godfrey had the protection of the Walker family; Declan, despite his willingness, would need to exert effort and skill. But Matilda? What did she have? Nothing, not even a protector!
"So, you value Matilda so much that you'd create a burner account just to leak secrets for her?"
Declan sneered, tightening his grip on Chloe's neck, "Too bad, Chloe. The more you care about someone, the easier it is for me to control you."
