Yvan's gaze was icy as he spoke, "Do you have any business with me? If not, please step aside."
Adlitam gasped, taken aback; this wasn't at all what her boss had prepared her for!
In a desperate attempt to keep him there, she even went as far as to wrap her arms around him from behind. Yvan, repulsed, nearly flipped her over in disgust before forcefully shoving her away, his eyes full of disdain.
Adlitam blurted out, "Come with me, and I'll reveal some truths to you!"
"No, thanks."
Yvan smirked, "I don't take kindly to threats."
He was unyielding!
By now, the venue was nearly empty, their scuffle unnoticed in a secluded corner. Yvan's patience was running thin, his voice turning frosty, "Don't make me get physical."
But Adlitam, fearless, edged closer, "Would you really strike this face?"
Yvan laughed mockingly, "You think you're worth my time?"
Shaken by his menacing aura, Adlitam stumbled back. Yet, remembering the mission handed down by her boss, she steeled herself to keep Yvan from leaving—when suddenly, the sound of wheels rolling over the carpet filled the nearly deserted hall.
Yvan froze, a woman's voice reaching him from behind, "Won't you see me?"
That voice sent shockwaves through him!
Disbelieving, he turned to find a woman in a wheelchair, her eyes innocent, her face pale, and her lips a soft pink—the very features he'd dreamt of.
"Because..." Rachel bit her lip as if fighting back something, then closed her eyes and took a deep breath before revealing, "I've been hiding from someone."
Not Matilda, but Ella.
Her own sister.
"The day I fell down the stairs, it was Ella's doing. She removed the 'wet floor' sign on purpose and distracted you with a phone call so that all you'd see was my fall—"
Her tragic descent.
Rachel had realized Ella's affection for Yvan early on, noticing her sister's odd glances towards her boyfriend. Despite their sisterly bond, Rachel sensed Ella's intentions growing clearer, their relationship becoming strained under the guise of sisterly affection. Ella, however, was scheming behind the scenes, with Rachel only realizing it too late.
Like that day by the escalator, seeing Matilda, Rachel was shocked. But before she could react, her heel broke—the high heels were a gift from Ella for her last birthday.
