That look in her eye made Matilda feel a bit disgusted. She wrinkled her nose, stepping back and tugging at Logan's hand, whispering, "Logan, let's get out of here."
Logan didn't say a word, just huffed and followed, but then Evie called out from behind them, "Matilda, you're not scared of me now, are you?"
Matilda froze in her steps.
An older man approached and stood beside Evie, wrapping an arm around her waist, "What's with the attitude, darling? Really now~"
"Oh, honey, I just don't want anyone looking down on us," Evie pouted and planted a kiss on the man's cheek. "If she looks down on me, it's like she's looking down on you, and I just can't stand the thought of anyone disrespecting you. It would make me so unhappy."
She had a way with words, making the older man beam with joy, handing her all the designer bags and cosmetics he had just bought, "You always know just what to say."
"Kurt, oh darling~~"
Kurt?
Matilda searched through her fragmented memories, trying to place the man before her. Was this Kurt?
A real estate mogul.
Seeing Matilda's expression, Kurt stepped forward, gazing at her smugly, "And who might this young lady be?"
"Don't you remember? She's the one from that supermarket hostage situation. Blood everywhere, tsk tsk..."
Evie clung to Kurt as if she wanted to fuse with him, and when she noticed Kurt's greedy gaze fixed on Matilda, she felt a mix of anger and amusement. She thought about knocking Matilda out and dumping her in this old man's bed. That would surely ruin her reputation!
But Matilda just looked at Kurt and Evie indifferently, as if they were putting on a performance, "Do you need something from me?"
Evie was taken aback.
Disgust surged in Matilda, but she had been feeling weak lately and couldn't break free. Logan got angry, "Let go of my mom!"
"You little brat, your mom's nothing but trash. Who are you to speak?" Evie had been annoyed with Logan for a while, and now she saw her chance. Going after Logan, she scratched his face, "Don't think Mr. Boyd cares about you. He'd rather you were dead!"
The commotion drew the attention of nearby clerks, but recognizing Kurt, a man of power and influence, they quickly pretended not to notice, silently pitying the mother and son.
Logan managed to break free from Evie, turning to grab the hem of Kurt's clothes, "Don't touch my mom!"
Evie, harboring old and new grudges, was about to step forward to deal with them when a chilling voice cut through the air—
Sharp as an arrow.
"Oh? When did I ever say I wanted them dead?"
