A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 381

"Sure thing."

Carl chuckled and glanced back, "How was Logan doing today?"

"Carl!" Logan greeted with enthusiasm. "Super fun, we tried all the rides, lucky us."

"Next time, once your mom is feeling better, I'll take you to stay a night at the Castle Hotel."

"Really?" Logan's excitement was palpable. "Then I'll be the prince, and mommy will be my princess!"

Matilda and Carl both laughed as the car smoothly merged onto the freeway, and Carl managed to sneak a moment to send a text.

【Mr. Boyd, I've picked them up.】

【Alright. Drive safe.】

Carl then chuckled at himself, turned off his phone, and focused on the road, making small talk with Logan. By the time they reached Whyt City, Logan, exhausted from the day's adventures, had fallen asleep.

Matilda tried to carry Logan, but she was too frail, visibly struggling. Carl said, "Let me carry him."

Oops... wrong title.

"Him?"

Matilda turned to Carl with a puzzled look. "You mean... Logan?"

Carl broke into a cold sweat. The title 'him' just slipped out, and clearly, Matilda had picked up on something!

"Your boss is... Yvan." Matilda's pupils shrank. "Logan is mine and Yvan's child?"

Meeting her eyes, Carl felt a pang of sadness.

Look at what had become of the once stunning Ms. Thompson... destroyed by Yvan.

"You next time..." Matilda said indifferently, as if she'd seen through everything, "Don't bother coming. Tell him that for me."

Carl was taken aback. She had guessed it...

With a bittersweet smile, he said, "Ms. Thompson, I watched you change into who you are today. Even if he wasn't good to you back then, you need someone to look after you now..." He wanted to say that having someone care for her was better than nothing, that even if she remembered everything, it wasn't too late to settle scores. But Matilda cut him off.

"I'm alone, and I don't need his care." Matilda's gaze drifted toward the mansion. "My heart tells me to stay away from him, so please ask him to do the same. Logan and I, we're fine on our own."

Carl didn't respond, simply wished her a good night and left, closing the door behind him. The room fell into silence.
