A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 371

His voice was hoarse, "I can endure whatever comes my way after Matilda regains her memories, as long as you guys…"

He paused, his voice so faint it was like a whisper of fog, "Don't push me away."

Logan's tears momentarily stopped before his eyes reddened even more. He was young and prone to soft-heartedness, but he had no desire to forgive the man before him—his father.

"My mom's attitude toward you is my attitude toward you," Logan said as he stepped aside. "If you want me to let go of my hatred, you've got to earn my mom's full forgiveness first."

Forgiveness? Yvan's gaze was filled with scorn. By the time Matilda was ready to forgive, she'd probably drift away from him again.

...

The next day, an unexpected visitor arrived in Matilda's hospital room.

Seeing the woman before her, Matilda was shocked.

"Hey? Heard you got stabbed, so I thought I'd come check on you. Still hurting?"

Chloe stood by Matilda's bed, her complexion pale but her eyes sparkling. Matilda grabbed Chloe's hand, "You... How did you get here?"

A cold laugh sounded from behind, and Matilda looked up to see Declan.

A sharp pain shot through her head, and Matilda shrank back at the sight of Declan. His men had beaten her, causing her stomach injuries, and naturally, she was afraid of Declan.

Seeing the fear in Matilda's eyes, Yvan clicked his tongue and said to Declan, "Get out."

"Damn, that cold?" Declan pointed at himself. "You're telling me to leave? Talk about burning bridges."

Tears welled up in Chloe's eyes as she spoke. Matilda smiled as a form of reassurance, "I'm much better now. And you, why have you lost weight? He didn't do anything to you, did he?"

"He…" When Declan was mentioned, Chloe's expression visibly darkened, "I don't expect much anymore, Matilda. You just need to take care of yourself, don't follow in my footsteps…"

"Did he bully you again?"

The mention brought back painful memories, causing Matilda's head to throb violently. She remembered bits and pieces but couldn't recall everything. She lay back down, gasping, "Sorry, my memory's been patchy lately... I can't remember a lot…"

"Forget it if you can't remember," Chloe said, her eyes full of pity. "They're not good memories anyway, Matilda. Just remember to move forward, never look back."

Chloe's firm voice echoed in her ears, and Matilda nodded, then mentioned, "Your neck... those marks…"

Chloe's face paled, then she reached to adjust her collar, realized it was futile, and simply gave a bitter smile, "Well, you know how Declan is with me…"
