A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 362

Matilda had never initiated a conversation with Yvan before. Her gaze always held a mix of caution and deep-seated wariness, a perception that irked Yvan to no end. But this time, Matilda broke the silence first. "Are you... planning to cook here?"

Yvan lowered his eyelids, standing by the window where the sunshine poured in, casting shadows around him. He turned his face slightly, his straight nose prominent. He was undeniably handsome, yet his eyes carried a loneliness, like a blade covered in frost, dulled and rusted over time.

He spoke softly, with an undercurrent of chilliness and detachment, "I thought you might be bored. You could try cooking to distract yourself."

Logan had also been clamoring for Matilda's cooking. Her culinary skills were modest at best, but the little boy missed her dishes.

Truth be told, so did Yvan.

Aside from that fried egg incident, the distance between him and Matilda felt like a vast river of time. It had been years since she last cooked for him, before her time in prison.

Back then, Matilda, the cherished daughter of the Thompson family, married him and took up cooking to please him. Despite her efforts, often nursing several band-aids on her fingers, her reward was Yvan's frequent absences, leaving meals cold and intentions frozen.

Suddenly, Yvan felt an urge to cry.

He tilted his head back, blinking rapidly, then swallowed hard. From afar, the sight was striking—his perfect jawline blending into his neck, forming a clean curve.

Yet his expression seemed to be holding back something intense.

Matilda couldn't understand but felt a sharp pain in her heart.

She asked instinctively, "Have we been through a lot together?"

Why else would his name alone make her feel this way, even without seeing his face?

Yvan's fingers trembled slightly as Matilda finally voiced the question he didn't have the courage to answer.

That evening, Adrian confessed his feelings to Matilda.

He was earnest, incredibly so.

Matilda was taken aback, "I... I don't know you well."

"We did know each other," Adrian insisted, laying bare the truth, "I admit, I did something unforgivable to you in the past, which is why you think of me as a bad person and chose to forget me. But Matilda, my intentions toward you are genuine. Can I have a second chance?"

He was despicable, taking advantage of Matilda's amnesia to win her over.

Yvan, standing outside the hospital room with his hand on the doorknob, retracted his hand as if electrocuted upon hearing Adrian's words.

His expression was a mix of suppressed agony and breathlessness.
