A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 354

Logan stood in silence, locked in a standoff with Yvan, the tension in the hospital room dropping to a freezing point. Eventually, Logan stood up, wiping away tears, "Take me home."

"Where to?" Yvan asked.

"I need to go home. I have school tomorrow. Pick me up after school, and I'll come to see Mom," Logan's voice shook, but his steps were resolute. "Mom's going to wake up. I just need to keep everything at home perfect, just like usual. She'll be proud of me..."

Was there a place for Yvan in this home Logan spoke of?

Logan had the staff take him away, and Yvan watched his slender silhouette disappear at the end of the hallway. An emptiness engulfed Yvan as he stared blankly at the woman lying in the hospital bed.

Her face was pale, her features delicate, and her lips devoid of any color. Yvan remembered how the world seemed to sparkle in Matilda's eyes when she smiled. But now, she lay there lifeless, a stark contrast to the lively spirit she once was.

Honestly, the moment he saw the knife pierce her, Yvan felt as if he was the one stabbed. Why else would he feel such acute pain?

He moved closer, uncontrollably reaching out to gently touch Matilda's face.

Then, like a child lost in confusion, Yvan's expression revealed no hint of his inner turmoil. Regret, pain, or even fleeting thoughts of ending it all surged like waves and just as quickly subsided. His mind felt numb until, in the quiet of the room, he dared to caress Matilda's face, whispering, "Matilda, I'm... so sorry."

Perhaps his apology was too late. Matilda might not care anymore.

"I know you hate me. Hate me if you must, but please, wake up, will you?"

"You wake up, get better, that's all that matters. I won't pressure you anymore. I know I've made many mistakes, but Matilda, I've realized them now. You wake up, and you can hurt me however you like, okay? Matilda, I'll make it all up to you..."

Make it up? What did that mean? Who was speaking to her?

Blurry yet familiar, a dangerously unknown figure.

Towards the end, Yvan choked up like a child, his voice trembling. He covered his face, overwhelmed by helplessness, despair, regret, and pain all crashing down on him at once. His hands shook. No one knew the extent of his fear, the fear that Matilda might never wake up.

"Everything will get better, Matilda... I'm begging you... please, wake up, will you?"
