A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 337

When Matilda opened her eyes again, the first thing she saw was Godfrey's weary face. "I'm sorry," she blurted out, tears immediately rolling down her cheeks.

Godfrey let out a sigh. "You've got nothing to be sorry about. Under those circumstances, you couldn't have stopped Declan."

Clutching her stomach, Matilda winced in pain. Godfrey added, "You've got a bruised stomach. You'll need to stay in the hospital for a few days. I'll go find Chloe."

Matilda kept urging Godfrey, "You have to bring her back. If Declan took her, he won't treat her well. You have to save her."

Godfrey offered Matilda a reassuring smile. "Thanks for caring so much about Chloe for me."

Chloe was her lifelong best friend. She couldn't just stand by if Chloe was in trouble.

Logan looked on with concern for Matilda, "Mommy, are we going to have to move again?"

The kid was sharp, already guessing their previous move was to escape Yvan.

Matilda's gaze flickered before settling determinedly. She placed a hand on Logan's head, "No, we're not moving."

She had nothing left to fear. A new chapter of their life was beginning. As long as they kept moving forward, they wouldn't look back.

Godfrey stayed with Matilda until the afternoon before leaving, likely having found a lead on Chloe's whereabouts. He was in a hurry, and Matilda could sense his anxiety.

Godfrey truly cared for Chloe and would surely protect her from harm.

Matilda clenched her fists, then turned to Logan, "Logan, it's time for us to be strong."

The young boy looked up at Matilda with a depth in his eyes that even adults couldn't fathom, dark as the night, and said, "Okay."

He had someone check on Ella's condition, but she remained in a coma, like a vegetative state, never opening her eyes again. Without Ella's own words, all of Yvan's questions twisted into a knot at his core, a thorn in his side, wounding him deeply.

Carl, sensing Yvan's dilemma, remained silent, the atmosphere turning eerily quiet. After a long pause, Yvan finally spoke, "Are they... alright?"

"Chloe was forcefully taken by Declan. Ms. Thompson is safe, but it seems..."

Carl hesitated.

Yvan's gaze sharpened. "Seems what?"

"It seems Ms. Thompson was injured by one of Declan's bodyguards and ended up in the hospital..." Carl revealed his hesitations, "And then, a stranger took her to the hospital. We haven't identified who this man is yet, Mr. Boyd. What do you think...?"

Yvan's pupils contracted, a stranger?
