"Sometimes, stepping back opens up a whole new world."
In full view of everyone, Godfrey affectionately tousled Chloe's hair. "Go ahead, Nora has her quirks, but aside from that, she's pretty alright. Plus, she's all about the work, not personal grudges. With your skills, she'll come around in no time."
His patient explanation left the crowd around them in awe; Godfrey showing such patience with a woman was unheard of...
After Godfrey left, the buzz didn't stop. Colleagues whispered behind Chloe's back, trying to figure out her relationship with him. When Chloe settled at her desk, people couldn't help but sneak up to her, "Hey, what's your deal with Godfrey?"
Chloe, baffled, replied, "Just good friends."
Their reactions were plain disbelief, as if to say, 'Are you kidding us? Just friends don't look at each other that sweetly!'
Feeling more and more like Chloe was playing coy, the office eventually returned to normal, their silent questions left hanging in the air.
Working her first day, Chloe felt the odd glances, typical for the new kid on the block, raising eyebrows and suspicions.
Coming home that evening, she found the door ajar and feared the worst. Instead, she walked in on Matilda and Logan, busy with a computer in the living room, so engrossed they hadn't even bothered to close the door.
Chloe chuckled, asking, "What's the big project here?"
"We're cracking this code!" Logan turned, wearing anti-glare glasses that made him look strikingly similar to Yvan, giving Chloe a start as if she was seeing a younger version of him.
Logan, catching her stare and smiling, pushed his glasses up, prompting Chloe to exclaim, "Damn, you're just like him!"
"It's a global map of signal towers," Logan explained. "With this, we can trace where signals originate, narrowing down IP addresses. This is how you start to pinpoint locations."
Pushing his glasses up again, Logan added, "You better watch out, Chloe. Once I get the hang of this, I can track where all your messages are coming from, even international IPs!"
"Is privacy dead, then?" Chloe joked, playfully squeezing Logan's cheek. "You're so smart for your age."
"Of course!" Logan met her gaze, his young eyes reflecting a maturity beyond his years. "The best way to keep a secret is never to reveal it. Anything shared online leaves a trail."
This exchange, peppered with modern references and a casual, familial tone, paints a vivid picture of their relationships and the world they navigate, blending technology and personal connections seamlessly.
