A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 291

The word "bastard" hit Logan like a punch to the gut, and Orson noticed the boy tense up. Turning to his mother, he said, "You're scaring him."

"What's with the attitude?"

Elodie's eyes narrowed to slits, and her authoritative glare sent a shiver down Logan's spine.

Her gaze was nothing like Yvan's. Yvan, at least, looked at him with familial affection, but this woman was cold as a machine.

Logan instinctively recoiled from the emotion. They didn't like him, and he wasn't about to start liking them.

With a steely look, Orson said, "So, what's the reason for this summons?"

He emphasized the word "summons" with a hint of sarcasm. It was less an invitation, more of a coercion, using Logan's safety as leverage.

Elodie scoffed coldly, "If not for a summons, would you ever come home?"

"This house doesn't change with or without me."

Orson glanced at Elodie, "If there's nothing else, I'll be going."

"Stop right there!"

A cold-blooded look in her eyes, Elodie said, "And what about Zinnia?"

"Who's Zinnia?" Orson turned back, matching his mother's frosty demeanor.

Elodie, gasping for air in frustration and clutching her chest, exclaimed, "The girl you've been dating for ages!"

Great, what kind of drama has that woman stirred up now?

Scooping Logan up, Orson started walking away, "Don't know her, forgot her."

With those four simple words, Elodie's face turned livid, "You stop right there! If you walk out now, don't ever think about coming back!"

"I never planned on coming back." Orson sneered, "This house makes me sick. Even if you begged me, I wouldn't return."

"Orson!"

Elodie staggered once more, unbelieving that Orson could say such things. Her eyes reddened, "You unfilial son! Arrest him!"

"Uncle Orson!" Logan cried out as a large hand reached from behind and hoisted him up. The boy had never been so terrified. Orson whirled around without hesitation and punched the man trying to take Logan. He pinned him against the wall, grabbed his hair, and smashed the man's face into his knee!

Blood splattered as the man's nose broke and he spat out a tooth.

Elodie trembled all over, "Insurrection! Orson, this is insurrection!"

Orson wrenched Logan from the man's grasp, his expression ferocious, "Keep your hands off him!"

Logan was cradled in his arms, his face etched with fear.

What was happening? Why was Uncle Orson fighting with his own mother? How could it escalate to violence?

Could family bonds really mean so little?

"Put that brat down!" Elodie, furious and unfiltered, pointed at Orson, "Are you going to defy your mother's orders too?!"
