A Journey from Bitterness to Truth (Matilda and Yvan) novel Chapter 251

“I guess we’re both small fries in this big pond,” Yoshi chuckled, “Looks like it’s my turn to fetch the ball.”

Orson was a whiz behind the wheel, drifting the car into the parking garage like something out of a high-octane action film. As they walked forward, Yoshi said, “The basement garage is connected to the sub-level of my place. Come on up.”

He approached a door and, with a quick press of his finger, the lock clicked open.

The gang straightened out their clothes a bit, and Yoshi mentioned that there were some old clothes left by his siblings upstairs for everyone to change into. The group made their way up the spiral staircase from the basement to the second floor, with Hala whistling in awe, “I had no idea, Yoshi. Your family’s loaded?”

Yoshi rolled his eyes, “And your dad runs that celebrity gossip empire, doesn’t he? Otherwise, with the scoops you used to drop, you’d have been jumped and beaten up multiple times over by now.”

Baxter clutched his chest in mock horror, “That’s it, I’m done for. Luna’s got military connections, Hala’s got the entertainment biz, our little studio is too intimidating.”

“Let’s not forget Orson, who drives a Phaeton to and from work. Talk about keeping a low profile,” Luna pointed out, nodding towards Orson. “I think Orson’s the real enigma here.”

“Been watching too much James Bond, have we?” Orson quipped, wrapping an arm around Matilda as he looked back at the group. “There are so many rich folks out there, we don’t even scratch the surface.”

Like Yoshi, for example. He was so laid-back that no one would guess his family was filthy rich.

Matilda couldn’t help but ask Yoshi, “So, what does your family do?”

Yoshi replied with disarming honesty, “New money. Struck it rich with oil.”

The room fell silent. That wasn’t just rich, that was mega-rich.

“Tonight was a blast. That Colleen chick, I saw her at a party with my brother once, acting all high and mighty because she popped out a son. Finally, got to put her in her place,” Luna stretched lazily. Hala stood up too, “Wanna bunk together?”

Baxter snickered with excitement, rubbing his hands together, “Can I join?”

Hala swiftly grabbed an ashtray from the coffee table and hurled it at him, “Beat it!”

The three of them left, leaving Matilda and Orson in the living room. Matilda was calmer now, though still a bit shaken. Orson leaned in closer, his arm resting behind her, “Think you’ll be able to sleep?”

The living room was empty, and Matilda finally realized he was talking to her. She looked up at him, her voice laced with a touch of uncertainty, “Hmm?”

Orson gestured upstairs, “If you’re scared to be alone tonight, I can keep you company.”
