Chapter 24
Chapter 24
After hanging up the phone, Sarah quickly wiped away her tears and grabbed her documents, heading out the door.
But as she opened the door, she collided head–on with the man standing right outside.
Daniel’s neck was covered in fresh hickeys, and the sight immediately hit Sarah’s eyes.
Even though she had prepared herself, in that moment, Sarah still silently looked away.
“Sarah, whether you like it or not, I’m with Emily now.”
Daniel noticed the faint redness around her eyes and added a hint of warning to his otherwise indifferent tone.
“I’m going to marry her. Since you’re living here, you need to respect her. Don’t say those ridiculous things again.”
Sarah lowered her gaze and replied calmly, “I understand, Uncle Daniel.”
The words “Uncle Daniel” left her mouth, and Daniel couldn’t help but feel uncomfortable hearing them.
He looked down at the girl standing before him, trying to remember the last time he had heard her call him that.
When Sarah first moved into the Foster family, she always called him “Uncle Daniel.”
But later, when her feelings for him changed, she started calling him by his first name, never once addressing him as “uncle” again.
He frowned, about to speak, when suddenly a woman’s voice from behind broke the strange silence between them.
“Daniel, I’ve moved my luggage in. Which room do I stay in?”
Daniel snapped back to reality and gently pulled Emily into his arms. “You like the sun, so Sarah’s room is perfect. It faces south, and the light is great. I’ll have her move to the guest room. From now on, you’ll stay here.”
A smug smile flashed in Emily’s eyes, but she feigned reluctance, saying, “But isn’t that a bit much?”
“After all, I’m the one who came later. Maybe I should stay in the guest room instead.”
Emily started to walk downstairs, but suddenly let out a surprised gasp.
Daniel quickly pulled her back into his arms. “You’re going to be my wife, the mistress of this house. How could you stay in the guest room?”
“But Sarah’s been living in that room for so long. Won’t she find it hard to adjust?”
He wasn’t wrong. She was, indeed, just an outsider.
When Emily wasn’t feeling well, he canceled a billion–dollar contract to stay home and take care of her.
If Emily casually mentioned a piece of jewelry, within ten minutes, he would personally deliver it to her.
Sarah quietly observed, not making a sound, not causing a fuss.
While waiting for her immigration papers to be processed, Sarah began to pack her things.
She packed her luggage and then gathered all the love letters and sketches she had written and drawn for Daniel, placing them into a box to throw away.
Just as she reached the door, she collided with Daniel, who was returning with desserts for Emily.
Sarah pretended not to see him, walking past him without glancing.
In the next instant, she felt a sharp pain in her wrist as Daniel grabbed her hand.
“Aren’t you avoiding me these past few days?”
