Chapter 18
The time difference meant Bena’s message to Freya would take hours in get a response. She tried to convince Jasper to go home in the meantime, promising to call the second she heard back, but he refused to budge.
He crashed on her couch, jerking awake at every notification sound, hoping it was news from Freya,
Finally, the next evening. Elena’s phone lit up with a reply.
“Tine. I’ll see him once.”
Those five words sent Jasper’s pulse racing. Freya was willing to meet him! There was still a chance!
Practically vibrating with anticipation, he immediately pulled up flight options on his phone.
Elena grabbed his wrist, her expression concerned.
“Jesus, take a breath. You haven’t slept properly in days. Get some actual rest first. If Freya agreed to meet you, she’s not going to ghost you.”
Jasper pulled away from her grip.
“I’ve waited long enough. Every minute since she left has been torture. I need to see her now.” His voice softened in a way Elena had never heard before.
Watching her brother practically sprint out the door, she sighed under her breath.
“If only you’d figured this out months ago…”
But Jasper didn’t hear her. His mind was completely fixated on Freya. The thought of seeing her again made his heart hammer against his ribs.
On the plane, sleep was impossible.
How was she holding up abroad? Had she lost weight? Was she struggling financially? She must feel so out of place in a foreign country.
When exactly had he fallen for her?
