Even Elizabeth herself had forgotten that Alice had never actually met Master Cullen before. If she hadn't used this as an excuse to find Alice for a chat, Alice would not have entered the study room out of curiosity.
It was too late now.
A double?
Was the person she saw yesterday a double?
"An entire year?"
Alice asked in shock and astonishment, what did this mean.
"Four years ago, no, it should have been five years ago, right?" Elizabeth said, her fingers caressed the transparent coffin lid, "At that time, during William's birthday banquet, I had a falling out with you guys, Master Cullen's condition worsened when he returned home."
Hearing this, Alice was shocked, "You're saying, Master Cullen has already been dead for four years?"
In other words, the time when William disappeared, Master Cullen died.
Elizabeth stood there quietly.
Alice stuck close to the wall as she walked out. Looking at Elizabeth, she said in disbelief, "You froze him for four years?"
It was too unbelievable.
Alice covered her mouth as she was unable to digest this fact. Master Cullen had died, Elizabeth had frozen her husband in the coffin for four whole years, and even trained a double to pretend to be her husband?
What did she want to do?
Was there something wrong with her mind?
Elizabeth did not answer her question, she only stood there staring at her husband inside the coffin, her beautiful face was covered with tears.
Alice could not tolerate Elizabeth's actions any longer, she turned and ran out. Before she could even run far, she was stopped.
Charles stood at the bookshelf, wearing a butler uniform and white gloves.
Alice looked at him blankly, then retreated two steps, "You know about this? Or are you involved?"
"She can't do it by herself."
So Charles really had a share of the whole thing?
"Are you crazy?" Alice looked at him in shock. "You guys hid the truth and frozen William's father's body for four years and even made a fake one. What do you guys want to do? Aren't you afraid that William will figure it out?
She stepped back as she spoke.
Charles stared at her and walked towards her step by step, "As long as Young Mistress does not say anything, it's fine."
"What do you want?"
Alice retreated back desperately, looking at him in fear, "Charles, don't do anything rash. William will not let you go, you should understand this."
Alice retreated back to the cabinet when Charles was about to grab her, she immediately dodged and ran. Then, Charles rushed forward and used his hand to grab her.
She was not a match for a housekeeper like him, so she could only surrender.
"Bam."
Charles grabbed Alice and pushed her to the door. Alice crashed into the wall and looked at them in fear.
Elizabeth stood there, looking at her with a sorrowful expression. Charles stood beside Alice, not giving her the chance to escape.
"Are you trying to trap me here?"
Alice asked, her face was pale.
Charles looked at Elizabeth, waiting for her orders.
Alice's phone suddenly rang, breaking the silence in the strange room.
She took out her cell phone and before she had the chance to see who the caller was, her phone was forcibly snatched away by Charles. Charles looked at her cell phone and then asked Elizabeth, "Madam, it's Second Young Master who called."
"Hang it up."
Elizabeth said as she reached out to wipe the tears on her face. Just as Charles was about to hang up, Elizabeth said again, "Wait, get her to pick up the phone, otherwise William will be back soon."
She knew very well the importance of Alice to him, she had to answer this call, otherwise she wouldn't be able to hide anything.
"Young Madam, here you are, please have a proper talk."
Charles had just caught her here, but he respectfully asked her to speak properly.
Alice took the phone, looked at them, and the moment the phone was connected, Charles went forward and grabbed her neck. As long as she spoke the slightest bit wrongly, he would end her life.
Alice stood there, her eyebrows knitted tightly. Looking at the coffin, she picked up the phone and suppressed her fear.
"Alice, are you alright?"
When the call connected, Alice heard William asking without hesitation.
Alice was dumbstruck. How did he know that something had happened to her? She was really going to be killed because of her curiosity.
Charles's hand that was holding her neck tightened.
"Alice, speak!"
William roared from there, his voice carried a sense of urgency.
Alice really wanted to tell him to come back quickly. His father had already passed away, but he still did not know, at the same time, she was being controlled by Charles.
Elizabeth and Charles looked at her.
I'm fine, what else can I do?"
Alice spoke, trying her best to maintain her calmness. William heaved a sigh of relief when he heard this, but he then asked in a domineering tone, "What are you doing?"
"Me?" Alice was startled, she looked at the coffin in front of her and said, "I hung a new painting in the study, you will see it when you return."
If Charles and Elizabeth really wanted to do something to her, since she had said so, William at least knew where he should go when he returned.
He was so smart that he must have understood.
After hearing her words, William did not doubt her at all and hung up.
