Chapter 4511
Romina added, “She just doesn’t like people who seem nice but are actually bad. That’s not ‘looking down on people.’ Besides, I was arguing with River when Bethany wanted me to hold her. That proves she’s got a pure heart. She could tell I’m a good person.”
Donovan smiled. “Alright, alright—you’re a good person, and that little girl isn’t snobby. Got it. But wow, she really stole your heart, didn’t she? You’re so protective of her now.”
Romina said, “You haven’t met her, so you don’t get it. Once you do, you’ll understand why I’m obsessed with her. She’s adorable, like a little fairy, with such delicate features.”
“Sister Seren is gorgeous, and her husband must be good-looking too. I mean, just look at River—annoying as he is, he’s still ridiculously handsome. Their whole family’s got amazing genes, so of course their kids are cute.”
“Sister Seren’s son is another little heartthrob. She said the whole York family is full of lookers—River’s cousins are all attractive too.”
Donovan took out the new clothes Romina had bought him. “One or two sets would’ve been enough, but you went overboard.”
“I gave one set to River,” Romina said offhandedly.
Donovan paused and turned to her. “Wait—what? Did I hear that right? You gave River clothes? He went shopping with you?”
Even if he had, wouldn’t River buy his own stuff? Why was his sister giving him clothes?
Hold on—did Romina even realize what it meant to gift a man clothes? People would definitely get the wrong idea. Could it be that she was starting to catch feelings for him?
“Yeah, he went with me. Said he rarely shops and doesn’t know the area well. So he asked Sister Seren to invite me along. I didn’t have any plans, so I went. That shameless guy— when I asked him to help me try on clothes, he claimed he was doing me a favor and asked for compensation. So I gave him a cheap set.”
Donovan raised a brow. “And you actually gave it to him?”
“It was just one set, only cost a few thousand. The ones I bought for you cost over ten grand— way nicer than his.”
Donovan chuckled.
“What’s that laugh for?” Romina asked, eyeing him. “Don’t get the wrong idea. I’m not into him.”
“Anyway, I have a business reception this Saturday. I’m going to ask Maddox to come with me.”
Romina quickly changed the topic, dragging Maddox into it just to distract her brother from teasing her about River.
She had no romantic interest in River at all. Honestly, the clothes she gave him were just too cheap to bother returning. It was like tossing them to a recycling bin.
Donovan caught on and smoothly picked up the new thread. “Then you should ask Young Master Johnstone out. He’s still single, and you’ve gone on a few dates. I think he likes you.”
The Lafond family was one of the most powerful in Eaglioncile. Romina, as the eldest daughter, was exceptional—smart, beautiful, and capable. Many elite families had tried to win her over, but she always lost interest after a few meetings.
Donovan figured his sister simply didn’t want to get married.
Still, he believed that if she ever met someone she truly liked—someone exceptional—she’d fall in love and settle down. Then Grandpa wouldn’t have to worry about her future anymore.
