After recomposing her thoughts, she changed her clothes and stepped out of her bedroom. Tanya had holed herself up in her own room, probably to avoid the commotion. She only ever showed her face when she stepped out to open the door for Jackson. Tiffany felt very awkward. She didn’t want to be left alone with Jackson!
She secretly sent Tanya a message: ‘Get out here! What are you doing in the room? You know very well that my relationship with Jackson is at an awkward stage!’
Tanya swiftly replied: ‘I am not coming out! I’ve heard what you were doing in the kitchen. It’d be awkward for me if I go out! I’m not going to be the third wheel! Pretend that I’m asleep. I can’t help you!’
Tiffany was dejected. What a wonderful “friend” she was!
Suddenly, Jackson’s voice called out from the kitchen, “Tiffany Lane, help me out here. Mark is rushing me.”
She would endure this, for Arianne!
She put on a poker face and walked in, refusing to look him in the eye. “What do you need?”
Jackson pointed at the vegetables in the sink. “Trim the vegetables. Mark says that there must be a balance of meat and vegetables in her diet. Thank goodness I researched nutritious meals for pregnant women back when you were trying to conceive…”
Tiffany didn’t answer, as she wasn’t really listening to him at all. She rolled up her sleeves and trimmed the vegetables. Suddenly, she noticed that his apron was loosening and instinctively helped tighten it for him. He stiffened. The atmosphere suddenly turned into silence. Only the sounds of the boiling soup could be heard.
